Acceptable Use Policy

Effective from 2026-07-06

Purpose

ClickMeats is built on trust between customers and independent butcher shops. This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) sets out the behaviour we expect from everyone who uses the Platform, and what happens if that behaviour isn’t met.

It works alongside our Terms of Service (customers) and Merchant Agreement (shops). Where a specific rule appears in those documents it takes precedence; this AUP fills the gaps.

Our role

ClickMeats is a marketplace, not a shop. We provide the ordering, payment, and messaging infrastructure that connects customers with independent butcher shops. The Shop is the seller of record and is responsible for food quality, preparation, hygiene, allergen disclosure, stock availability, and handing over the order to the correct customer. This shapes how the rest of this policy reads: some rules apply to how you use the Platform, others apply to what you sell or receive.

Who this applies to

  • Customers — anyone browsing the site or placing an order.
  • Shop owners and their staff — anyone with access to a partner shop’s business dashboard or shop page.
  • Visitors — anyone using the site who fits neither of the above (e.g. someone casually looking at butcher pages before signing up).

The basic expectation

Use ClickMeats honestly and in the spirit it’s built for — connecting real customers with real independent butcher shops. Anything that undermines that trust falls short of this policy.

Prohibited — for everyone

Whatever your role, you must not:

  • Impersonate another person, business, or ClickMeats itself.
  • Provide false information during signup, checkout, or onboarding (e.g. fake name, someone else’s payment card, or a business address that isn’t yours).
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Platform, another user’s account, or any part of the underlying infrastructure.
  • Interfere with, disable, or attempt to circumvent security or rate-limiting measures.
  • Scrape the site, run automated crawlers beyond respectful search-engine indexing, or copy content in bulk without consent.
  • Introduce viruses, malware, or any code designed to damage, disable, or gain unauthorised access to any system.
  • Use the Platform to harass, threaten, defame, or discriminate against any person or business.
  • Use the Platform to facilitate any activity that is unlawful in the UK.

Prohibited — for customers

In addition to the rules above, customers must not:

  • Place orders they don’t intend to collect (with the intent to cause the shop to prepare and hold goods that are then wasted).
  • File false chargebacks or fraudulent refund claims against a shop.
  • Use the site to obtain personal information about the shop’s staff, other customers, or anyone else.
  • Behave abusively (verbally, in writing, or in person) toward shop staff on collection.
  • Post reviews or feedback containing content prohibited elsewhere in this policy (hate speech, personal attacks, false factual claims).

Prohibited — for shops

In addition to the general rules and everything in the Merchant Agreement, shops must not:

Products

  • List products that are unlawful to sell in the UK.
  • List meat or meat products that fail to meet food-hygiene requirements or that were not obtained from an approved supplier.
  • Falsely describe products as halal, kosher, organic, free-range, or grass-fed without valid certification or genuine supply.
  • Substitute a product with an inferior alternative without the customer’s consent.
  • Include weights or portion sizes materially different from what was ordered without agreement.

Customer treatment

  • Refuse to hand over a paid order (except where legitimate identity or age verification fails).
  • Contact customers for any purpose other than fulfilling their order, unless the customer has separately opted in.
  • Sell, share, or reuse customer contact details or order history.
  • Push customers to complete the transaction outside the Platform to avoid the Platform Fee.

Listing content

  • Upload product photos, logos, or certificate documents you don’t have the right to use.
  • Mark certificates as verified where they haven’t been reviewed and accepted by ClickMeats.
  • Use the shop page to advertise unrelated businesses.

Content standards

Anything visible on the Platform — product descriptions, shop “About” text, uploaded photos, reviews — must:

  • Be accurate and not misleading;
  • Not contain hate speech, discriminatory language, or incitement to violence;
  • Not contain personal data about anyone other than the account holder;
  • Not infringe anyone else’s intellectual property.

What happens if you break the rules

Our response scales with severity. In rough order:

  1. A friendly heads-up. For minor or first-time issues (e.g. an incorrect certificate upload) we’ll message you and give you a chance to fix it.
  2. Restriction or suspension. We may temporarily stop your account taking new orders, hide your shop page, or freeze specific product listings while we investigate.
  3. Termination. For serious or repeated breaches we may end the Agreement or close your account, following the notice provisions in the Terms / Merchant Agreement.
  4. Legal action. Where a breach causes us or a third party financial or reputational harm we may recover costs and pursue damages, including through the courts.
  5. Reporting. Where we have reasonable grounds to suspect a criminal offence — particularly food-safety, fraud, or hate-crime — we’ll cooperate with the police, Trading Standards, or the ICO.

Reporting misuse

If you spot behaviour on ClickMeats that breaks this policy — whether by a customer, a shop, or someone claiming to be either — please tell us:

abuse@clickmeats.co.uk

Include the shop or order in question, what happened, and any evidence you have. Reports are handled in confidence and we won’t share your identity with the party you’re reporting.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll bump the effective date at the top and, where changes are material, message account holders directly.
